The Premier League title will be in Liverpool’s hands if Manchester City fail to beat Tottenham on Saturday, believes Danny Mills.
And the former Citizens defender believes their season may be deemed a failure if they finish with only another EFL Cup in their trophy cabinet.
After their titanic Champions League battle on Wednesday, City and Spurs will have to do it all again on Saturday lunchtime in the Premier League, where as much is at stake for both teams.
While their quadruple hopes are now over after the dramatic Champions League quarter-final defeat, City are still on the hunt for a second straight league crown.
Pep Guardiola’s side currently sit one point behind leaders Liverpool but have a game in hand, and know winning all five of their remaining matches will see them lift the trophy.
LATEST FOOTBALL NEWS
Meanwhile, Tottenham’s title challenge may be long over, but they are still fighting for a top four finish with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United hot on their heels.
We’re unlikely to see another rip-roaring attacking display, after five goals were scored in the opening 21 minutes in Wednesday’s Etihad Stadium clash.
But should Spurs produce another stunning victory at the Etihad, Mills believes City can kiss their title hopes goodbye.
“If Manchester City don’t win this game, the title is gone for them,†said the former City and England defender on Friday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
“Within the space of four days, out of the Champions League and Premier League…
“They’ve still got the FA Cup to go for, but they could end up with one trophy and is that failure?
“It’s such a fine line Manchester City tread.
“It’s not going to be an easy game for Tottenham, either. I think it will be very difficult for Spurs to raise themselves, there will be a hangover and I’m not sure they can play with the same intensity.
“They picked up one or two injuries in the game as well and we know Man City have an incredibly deep squad of talent to pull on.
“This is another huge game. To raise yourself again, it’s not going to be easy. The emotions from the other night would have been so, so draining.

“It was an incredible, end-to-end game, goals from all over the place. This has almost got 0-0 written all over it now, it could be the most boring game ever.
“I think this match means a little more to City, even though it’s not going to be easy for Tottenham to get in the top four.
“Chelsea and Arsenal have suddenly got a bit of confidence and Man United have a game in hand. It’s going to be so tight.â€
