Wonderkids who could shine in France at the Women's World Cup

Coming off the back of a title-winning season with Glasgow City, Alexander will be full of confidence. She has been Scotland’s number one following legendary goalkeeper Gemma Fay’s retirement in 2017.

She has 16 international caps, a number that is likely to increase in this summer’s World Cup.

Rachel Corsie (defender, Utah Royals)

Corsie is one of Scotland’s most experienced players, with 104 caps to her name.

Playing in the heart of defence, she is a leader at the back for her side.

She plies her trade for Utah Royals in the US, a NWSL side based in Salt Lake City. She’s one of several stars from the club at the Women’s World Cup, including United States stars Christen Press and Kelley O’Hara.

Beattie is likely to partner Corsie in defence as the pair will aim to keep out England, Japan and Argentina in Group D.

She is a huge threat in the opposition box and has scored an impressive 22 goals for her country.

Earlier this month, Beattie rejoined Arsenal after a four-year spell at Manchester City.

Kim Little (midfielder, Arsenal)

Now deemed one of Scotland’s best players, she missed out on Euro 2017 after rupturing her ACL.

Her journey to this summer’s tournament has not been easy, though. Little broke her leg in a 5-0 win over Chelsea in October, but made a quick recovery and is set to star for her country at the World Cup.

Little helped Arsenal Women win a first league title in seven years last season.

Erin Cuthbert (forward, Chelsea)

Cuthbert has been tipped to be one of the breakthrough stars at the World Cup.

The forward scored 13 goals for Chelsea last season, including a strike against Lyon in the Champions League semi-final.

Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes has praised the 20-year-old time and time again. In January, she said: “You dream about players like this coming around, full of heart, desire and determination.”

Jane Ross (forward, West Ham)

Ross has been on Scotland’s books since she was called up to the Under-19 squad when she was just 16 years old.

She scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Albania in September, which sent Scotland to the World Cup.

No other player in the 23-woman squad has scored more goals for her country than Ross (58).
