He was also voted United’s young Player of the Year – and his imperious performances have even led to interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with ESPN stating Bayern Munich and Juventus were monitoring his progress following his stellar form.

But he is intent on remaining between the sticks for the Blades next season, with discussions with his parent club reportedly set to take place this week.

The Red Devils are willing to allow the keeper to stay on with the Blades but are keen to negotiate a new long-term contract with him to fend off interest for his signature.

But what have other big names in the game said about Henderson? talkSPORT.com has delved deeper into the career of the Championship’s star stopper.

Dean Henderson after achieving promotion

“It’s a massive football club and driving forward they deserve to be in the Premier League.

“For me personally I was really emotional and I’ve told the gaffer (Chris Wilder) ‘listen, don’t let me leave’, but obviously it comes down to the two clubs to agree on money and stuff, so I’ll be itching at the bit to come back here next season.”

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder

“Dean has been first-class for us. Everyone looks at what happened at Villa, not just at Dean but the team in general, how would he and we react?

“The answer is what Dean has produced since and what the players have found since then too. I’m not surprised he’s been talking about, but there are some unbelievable goalkeepers in front of him that he’s got to get past.

“But at the moment he is doing all he can. He is playing extremely well and playing a part in what have been consistently good team performances.

“He’s up there with the best in the division, but Leeds signed a boy from Real Madrid and Sam Johnstone still gives me sleepless nights.

“But Dean is right up there and last season he was certainly the best in League One and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t in contention for accolades come the end of the season.

“Dean wants to play football and I congratulate him for his attitude, it’s changed in recent years and he wants to get his hands dirty, just like Kieran Dowell.”

England manager Gareth Southgate on Henderson

“In terms of Angus [Gunn], he’s just got into the team – so Alex McCarthy is unfortunate to be out of the team at Southampton – and Angus has got a good challenge to get in our under-21s because Dean Henderson is playing really well at Sheffield United and is also close to our squad. There’s good competition for places.”

It very much looks like it will be the Lilywhites who will join Chelsea in next year's competition as they have a superior goal difference to their north London rivals. The Gunners, who take on Burnley on Sunday, can take the last place if an eight-goal swing goes in their favour with Spurs facing in-form Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
