Wolves have had a magnificent return to the Premier League

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men smashed their previous Premier League points record (40) with nine matches remaining – since 2001, no newly-promoted club has finished in a higher position than 8th.

And now, as the season edges towards it conclusion, many are suggesting the Molineux chief should be crowned manager of the year.

In light of Wolves’ stellar campaign, talkSPORT.com has taken a look at other teams who have endured similarly brilliant returns to the Premier League since it started in 1992.

Kevin Phillips scored an astonishing 30 goals in his first season in the top-flight and claimed the European Golden Shoe as the Black Cats secured a seventh place finish in the Premier League.

Final position: 9th

The Hammers scraped their way to the Premier League through the play-offs and many largely expected them to go straight back down.

However, at the end of October they were fourth and enjoying a superb season. They might have won an FA Cup too if it wasn’t for some heroics from Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard.
